First, how do you do a smokey eye?

Go to these Youtube links to find step-by-step videos:

Second, what brushes do you use?

Any good eye shadow brush! One universal brush is enough. Here are my favorites:

And what brand of eye shadow?

I will give you two lists. One list are cheaper, drugstore ones if price is your priority. The second will be more expensive, if quality is your priority.

Cheaper (get these at walgreens or something):

This isn't a pallette, but it's also for smokey eyes:

The Play Up Trio for Hazels: http://almay.com/Pg/Main/CatProdDet.aspx鈥?/a>

Also, there is Prestige's eyeshadow quad in the shade EK-06 storm, but I don't have a link.

More expensive (if you go to the link and there isn't a big huge picture of the smokey pallette, scroll down to see the other color choices and it will be there):

i use a covergirl eyeshadow and a maybelline thick eye pencil. make sure you get corresponding colors though. to start, you want to make a thick line above the lashes and smear it with a q-tip or something like that. then with the shadow, take small brush and make long strokes going towards the outer corner of your eye at a 45 degree angle. you then would want to take a new q-tip and give it a smudged look so it doesnt look so linear?

well thts how i get my smokey eyes.. have funHow do you do a smokey eye?I've been wanting to learn. And what brushes to i use and brand of eye shadow?
here is my smokey eye...step by step and simple as can be... (feel free to substitute lighter shades for the ones i mention)

start with a clean canvas...concealer, foundation, and/or powder in place. apply a thin layer of shadow base or eye primer to the entire lid (urban decay primer potion, mary kay eye primer, merle norman automatic shadow base, or mac eye primer)

black or dark grey shadow in the shape of a sideways V on the corner of the eye, working into the crease (i use merle norman shadow in ebony and a palladio flat shadow brush)

lighter grey shimmer shadow over the lid, blending into the first darker shade (i use mac shadow in idol eyes and a mark contour brush)

silvery/champagne shimmer shadow under the brow bone and dotted on inner corners of eyes with full shadow brush (i use merle norman luminous shadow in sun beam and an essence of beauty shader brush)

black liner all the way across top lid, slightly thicker on outer edges, and 3/4 way across bottom (avon glimmersticks liner in blackest black)

sweep thin line of medium shimmer grey under lower lash line, below and slightly over black liner

curl lashes and add 2 coats of volumizing black mascara (maybelline volum' express turbo boost 7Xs mascara in black)

-you can also do a smokey eye with shades of brown, purple, green... any color.

here are the shades i recommend from a few different brands for the basic black/grey....

-from mac: black tied, charred OR idol eyes, and shroom

-from lancome: the new black, style section OR volcano, and off the rack

-from merle norman: ebony, zinc OR stay steel, sun beam

-from avon: night sky, steel OR slate, iced silver

stila (at sephora) has a smokey eye kit that has 4 shadows in a palette...push a tiny button and a voice speaks instructions to you. there is also a holographic image of an eye that shows where the different shades go when you turn it. $40

also available at sephora are hard candy and smashbox. hard candy makes a shadow quad called ';techno'; that sells for $28, and smashbox makes a shadow trio called ';twilight'; that sells for $30. both are good for grey smokey eyes.

for drugstore palettes, try revlon, loreal, covergirl and maybelline. i know all of those lines carry them, but not sure of the names.

always keep lips light... glossy nudes are great with sexy smokey eyes.
the best brands for smokey eyes are mac, max factor, and rimmel.

to get smokey eyes

get black powdered eyeshadow and use a small rounded brush and apply in very heavy coats to your eyes. finish with thick lines of eyeliner in either brown/black or navy. and presto...nice smokey eyes:D
First thing to remember is you don't have to use black! Use this technique with any colours you want.

This is a very basic smokey eye which is really easy to do

Start off with your lightest colour, apply it all over your lid

With the medium shade, blend it into your crease

Using an angled brush, press the darkest colour into your top and bottom lashlines.

With the angled brush again, or with a smudger, pull the dark shade just a bit.

I could send you a better tutorial, with pics if you want
i use Elizabeth Arden Eyeliner

-expresso- Smoky eyes

it comes with a little ';smear'; tip so all you have to do is put thick eyeliner on top and bottom..on the top with the sponge smear it a little

= PERFECT SMOKY EYE

;]
mac and urban decay!

=]

I use urban decays 24/7 eyeliner to make a smokey eye by using a smudge stick thing... then i use different shades of eyeshadow.. make sure you get some urban decay eyeshadow primer potion though so it doesn't crease... i think MAC eyeshadow is the best though =D also you can ask the people working at MAC or sephora if you have one =D
Below a put a link to a vide that will show you how to do it. Yeah. Hope I get #1 =]
what *BLM* is good. but sorry mine is better! lol =P

smokey eye is a classic.

1. cover your whole eye in a grey silvery tone.

2. taking a smaller brush, take a darker colour, preferebly a really really dark purple or black, (purple is great) and press that in your inner corner and your outer corner.

3. taking a highlight, (a glittery tone, silver or glittery blue would be good) press this LIGHTLY literally in the center of your eye, in betwween the dark colours.

4. buff it all out, using a brush, rub the higlight into the darker colours.

if you want to go one step further, put on fake eyelashes! the ones with the dimantes!! but always remember to put on mascara with the fake eyelashes, to tab your really lashes in to the false ones.

for your cheeks, go a light bronzer, then a light shimmer dust on top.

go pale lips. or you dont want to overpower the eyes. always only focus on one feature of your face or you'll look OTT.

tell me how it works out!!
Go here. I think you have to have a youtube.com account, but this British chick takes you through all the steps and shes very thorough. Just search for smokey eye.. trust me!
