Does wetting eye shadow spoil the product?

Some eye shadow palettes give you the option of using it either dry or wet. In order to use it wet (and get the affect of liquid eye shadows), you'll need to first wet your brush and dip it into the colour. My concern is will this encourage germs to breed on the palette? If you dip your damp brush into the colour, you'll leave the colour palette damp as well and this might spoil the product. If it does, then why is it still a popular technique which some professional make up artist use?Does wetting eye shadow spoil the product?
Water doesn't help breed bacteria. If that was true then all of your creams would breed bacteria like crazy and you'd have to throw them out within days of using them. Powders naturally inhibit bacteria growth. Once the water evaporates it's right back to a powder. Unless you pour water on your palette (not recommended) dipping a damp brush into a powder product only dampens the surface. To remove the caked looking spot from you shadow all you have to do is take some scotch tape and lay it over the water spot once it's dried and lift. The water penetration is so minor that the scotch tape lifts off the stuck together particles and underneath is powdery again.

This is a popular technique because it works well. The water helps bond the shadow together and when the dampness evaporates you are left with a longer lasting powder finish that has been allowed to bond with the skin and other powder particles. I've been using this technique for years and have never had any bacteria problems with any of my makeup.

You only want to do this on shadows that are advertised as wet//dry formulas. If you dip a damp brush in the powder and it starts to ball up then it has too high of a silicone content and isn't meant to be mixed with water.Does wetting eye shadow spoil the product?
u could just put it on and then wet the brush and add the wetness after to get the wet look. thats what i read on the cover girl site
just try putting the make up on you hand or some place clean and then wet the brush and take the eye shaddow off your hand
i don't think it's that bad, because some proffessionals use it like that, so, i guess it can't be that bad, but i use a pencil anyways..
